XFOR: Directory Synchronization Does Not Respond Between Exchange Server and Novell GroupWise (309818)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

This article was previously published under Q309818

SYMPTOMS

When you try to perform directory synchronization (dirsync) between Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 and Novell GroupWise, the directory synchronization process may not respond. The Lsdxa.exe process for the Novell GroupWise Connector continues to run.

If you increase logging on the Novell GroupWise Connector, the following error messages are displayed in the Microsoft Exchange Connectivity Administrator (Lsadmin.exe) logs.

2001/10/09 10:03:07- CONTROL-SERVICE(09fc) 1 00001:Operating system error {WIN32:32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)} from eraseFile >> fm(340)

2001/10/09 10:03:07- CONTROL-SERVICE(09fc) 2 01158:Error {Access denied} - Deleting file C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\conndata\TEMP\DXAGWISE.txt
On an Exchange 2000 Server computer, the logs are located in the following folder:

Program Files\Exchsrvr\Conndata\Logs

NOTE: On an Exchange 2000 Server computer, the logs folder is not created by default. You must manually create the logs folder, and then name the folder logs. After you perform this procedure, you must stop and then restart the Microsoft Exchange Connectivity Controller service and the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Novell GroupWise.

On an Exchange Server 5.5 computer, the logs are located in the following folder:

Exchsrvr\Connect\Exchconn\Logs

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, delete the Dxagwise.txt file that exists in the Temp folder, and then make sure that the correct permissions are assigned to the Temp folder. The Administrators Group and the System account have Full Control permissions by default.

NOTE: The Temp folder on the Exchange 2000 Server computer is located in the following folder:

Program Files\Exchsrvr\Conndata\Temp

The Temp folder on the Exchange Server 5.5 computer is located in the following folder:

Exchsrvr\Connect\Exchconn\Temp
