OL2002: An Embedded Picture Is Lost If a User Replies to a Message in a Browser (309725)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q309725

SYMPTOMS

In Outlook 2002, set the message editor to use the Use Word as email editor option, and then create an HTML message with a picture attached in Outlook. If the message recipient uses Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator version 6 to open the e-mail message with Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), that recipient can view the picture and reply to the e-mail message; in the reply, the picture is still displayed as an attachment. However, when you open the message reply in Outlook, the attachment may be blank, even though the message reply displays a paper clip icon that indicates that the message contains an attachment.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem and view the attachment in the message reply, right-click the message in Outlook, click View Attachments, click the attached picture, and then double-click the attached picture to open it.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This article applies only when Outlook 2002 is set to use the Use Word as email editor option and the recipient who sends the reply uses Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape 6 to gain access to OWA.
