XL2000: SR-1 Stops Responding When You Open a File After an Incomplete Save (309671)

This article was previously published under Q309671 SYMPTOMS When you try to save a workbook that contains charts,
Microsoft Excel stops responding. After this problem occurs, Excel stops
responding when you try to reopen the workbook. CAUSE When a file is not saved completely, some of the
information that Excel needs to reopen the file is missing.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the
following file attributes or later. The dates and times for these files are
listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information,
it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local
time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUND To work around this problem, open and save the file in
Microsoft Excel 2002 if available. This process repairs the file so that you
can then reopen it in Microsoft Excel 2000. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in
Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
