You receive the "Your system is low on virtual memory" error message when you open a presentation in PowerPoint 2000 (309655)

tested by Microsoft. Use only with discretion. SYMPTOMS When you open a Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 presentation on a
Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows NT-based computer, you may receive
the following error message: Your system is low on
virtual memory. To ensure that Windows runs properly, increase the size of your
virtual memory paging file. After you increase the size of the
virtual memory, you continue to receive the error message. CAUSE This behavior can occur if an object contained in the
presentation is damaged in some way. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, remove the damaged object from the
presentation. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start PowerPoint 2000, and then open the presentation in
which you receive the error message.
NOTE: Make sure that you open the presentation on the same computer on
which you have already received the error message.
The computer stops
responding (hangs) on the slide with the damaged object for a short time before
you receive the error message. - Make note of the offending object's location.
- Open the presentation on a Microsoft Windows 95 or
Microsoft Windows 98-based computer.
- Locate the offending object, and then delete it.
NOTE: This action removes this object from your presentation. If this
object is an essential part of the presentation, you will need to reproduce
it. - On the File menu, click Save.
- Open the new presentation on the Windows NT or Windows
2000-based computer.
