"Unable to Accept Invitation" Message Appears on Computer That You Invite for Remote Assistance Session (309589)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Messenger 4.5
  • Microsoft Windows Messenger 4.6

This article was previously published under Q309589

SYMPTOMS

When you try to invite another computer for a Remote Assistance session, Windows Messenger sends the invitation to the other computer even though the remote computer does not support the Remote Assistance feature and therefore cannot start the feature. The message "Unable to accept invitation" may appear on the remote computer.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because Windows Messenger does not check for the presence of the Remote Assistance feature on the other computer before Windows Messenger tries to connect. Remote Assistance and video conversation features are supported only on Windows XP.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
