Adjusting the Microphone Control in the Phone Window Does Not Change the Volume (309585)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Messenger 4.5
- Microsoft Windows Messenger 4.6
This article was previously published under Q309585 SYMPTOMS
When you drag the Microphone slider in the Phone window to adjust the volume, the microphone setting does not change in the system volume control. The microphone may also show mute as the selected setting under the system volume control, although in fact the microphone is working.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because if the microphone control in the system volume control is set to Playback, that microphone control is independent of the microphone control under Recording.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, link the microphone control in Windows Messenger to the microphone control under Recording:
- Click Start on the taskbar, and then click Control Panel.
- Under Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices, click Adjust the system volume.
- On the Volume tab, click Advanced.
- In the Volume Control dialog box, click Options, and then click the Properties tab.
- To control the microphone, click Recording in the Adjust volume for area. The microphone control in Windows Messenger is now linked to the Recording control.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
