This article was previously published under Q309444

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to register your copy of Microsoft Project after you start Microsoft Project on a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, Microsoft Project unexpectedly quits after you click Finish in the Registration Wizard. When you start Microsoft Project again, the Registration Wizard reappears. As a result, you are unable to register your copy of Microsoft Project.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install Microsoft Project on a Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000-based computer while you are logged on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group, and then you start and attempt to register Microsoft Project while you are logged on with a user account that does not have administrative permissions.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, log on to your computer as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group, and then register Microsoft Project. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Log off the computer as the current user.
  2. Log on to the computer as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
  3. Start Microsoft Project.
  4. Follow the steps in the Registration Wizard to register Microsoft Project.

When Microsoft Project starts after registration is complete, quit the program.
  5. Log off as Administrator (or as a member of the Administrators group).
