SYMPTOMS

When you try to install an Internet Explorer 6 customized-media package, the installation may not work, and you may receive the following error message:
Setup has detected that you already have the latest version of Internet Explorer.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Install.ins file that was created by Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) version 6 Wizard contains an undefined "Company Name" value.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, manually edit the Install.ins file to specify a value for the "Company Name" parameter before you create the installation package:
  1. Start the IEAK6 Wizard, and set the Internet Explorer 6 customizations as usual.
  2. When the wizard displays the last page (just before the package is created), open another window and locate the Install.ins file for the package.
  3. Open the Install.ins file with Notepad, and then locate the [Branding] section. Note that the "Company Name=" line has no value assigned.
  4. Add the desired name immediately after the equals sign, save the changes, and then quit Notepad.
  5. Return to the IEAK6 window, and then let the IEAK Wizard create the installation package.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit version 6.

MORE INFORMATION

Setting the Company Name parameter through the graphical user interface is no longer supported in the IEAK6 Wizard, although this functionality was present in previous versions.
