You may experience either of the following symptoms:
- When you try to update an Access Control List (ACL), you may not be able to do so. This symptom may occur if an "access denied" error message is generated during the application of the updated ACL. When the updated ACL is not applied, the previous ACLs are not restored to the files or folders. After this occurs, files or folder appear to have a blank ACL, so they default to inheritance. Inheritance means that permissions that you do not want to be applied are applied to the folders or files.
- If the following conditions exist, you may receive an "Unable to save permissions: Access Denied" error message:
- You have full permissions to a directory tree.
- You try to give another person or group permissions to that directory tree
- You use the "Reset permissions on all child object and enable propagation of inheritable permissions" feature at the root of the tree.
When you close the error message, and then click Properties again, the Security tab is missing.
