XFOR: Lotus Notes Connector Cannot Send Message That Has 1,024 or More Attachments (309200)

SYMPTOMS

When you have Exchange 2000 Server configured with a Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes, and a Lotus Notes client sends a message that has 1,024 or more attachments across the connector to an Exchange Server client, the delivery fails at the connector. The Lsntsmex.exe process terminates, and all subsequent mail that is designated to travel from the Lotus Notes server to the Exchange 2000 Server becomes backlogged at the connector.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:

Send multiple messages and attach fewer than 1,024 files to any one message.
Archive the attachments by using an archiving utility, for example the compressed folders feature in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition or Microsoft Windows XP, and then attach the archive to the message.
Save the files to a network share, for example \\Servername\Sharename, where Servername is the name of the server where the files are saved and Sharename is the name of the share where the files are stored. Send a link to that share instead of sending all of the files.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.

The Lsntsmex.exe process polls the Lotus Notes outbound mail router (Exchange.box) and picks up any mail that is deposited there. Lsntsmex.exe also converts messages into MAPI format and deposits them in the ReadyIn folder on the Exchange Server computer that hosts the Exchange Notes Connector.
