This article was previously published under Q309178 SYMPTOMS
When Internet Explorer performs an AutoDial procedure, the Internet Explorer window and the Dial-Up Connection dialog box are displayed. If you configure the AutoDial feature to automatically connect, the AutoDial procedure starts. When this occurs, you can quit Internet Explorer. If you do this, the Dial-Up Connection dialog box closes. Because the connection is not established, the modem dials, negotiates line speed, and then stays connected until an Internet service provider (ISP) timeout occurs and quits the connection.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the methods that are used by Internet Explorer to determine whether a connection is open or not do not determine if the connection is in the process of being established.
