OL2000: Outlook Today Folder Links Do Not Work if the User Display Name Contains a Slash Mark (/) (309167)

SYMPTOMS

If a Microsoft Exchange mailbox display name contains a slash mark (/), Outlook Today does not function properly when you choose the folders that you want to appear in Outlook Today and save the changes. After you make any changes and save them to the folders that appear in Outlook Today, an hourglass appears when you click any folder link.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Outlook 2000 attempts to convert the folder links to a URL format and replaces the slash mark (/) with a back slash (\). This causes part of the display name to be treated as a folder, the folder path is no longer valid, and Outlook 2000 cannot locate the folder.

RESOLUTION

This issue has been resolved in Microsoft Outlook 2002

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around this behavior:
  • Change the Exchange mailbox display name to remove the slash mark (/). -or-

  • Upgrade to Outlook 2002.
