Windows 2000 Setup Does Not Find Any Hard Disk on Dell Dimension XPS B1000 During Upgrade (309160)

When you try to upgrade your Dell Dimension XPS B1000 computer from Windows Millennium Edition (Me) to Windows 2000, the Setup program may not find any hard disk drives connected to your computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, obtain and use the driver for the Dell Promise Ultra ATA 100 Controller:
- Go to the following Web site
and download the Windows 2000 device driver for the Promise Ultra ATA 100 Controller from Dell. Write down the name of the folder where you save the new driver.
- Start the upgrade to Windows 2000.
- When Setup indicates that it does not find any hard disk drives connected to your computer, press F6, browse to the folder where you saved the new driver, and then click the Win2000 Ultra 100 device driver.
- Continue with the upgrade.
