Trying to Start Replication from Domain Controller Generates an Error Message About Event 13507 (309066)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
This article was previously published under Q309066 SYMPTOMS
When you try to start replication from a domain controller that runs Windows 2000 Advanced Server, you may receive the following error message about an event in the File Replication log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: NtFrs
Event Category: None
Event ID: 13507
Date: 5/24/2000
Time: 3:44:54 PM
User: N/A
Computer: TEST
Description: The File Replication Service cannot start replication set DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE) on computer TEST for directory e:\winnt\sysvol\domain because the type of volume \\.\e:\ is not NTFS 5.0 or later. The volume's type can be found by typing "chkdsk \\.\e:\". The volume can be upgraded to NTFS 5.0 or later by typing "chkntfs /E \\.\e:\".
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the domain controller is not updated with the new drive letter for the Domain System Volume share (in this case, M:\Winnt\Sysvol).
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, use the ADSIEdit tool to update the domain controller by adding the new drive letter:
- Start the ADSIEdit tool, which is located on the Windows 2000 installation CD under \Support\Tools.
- In the ADSIEdit tree, click the Domain Controllers organizational unit.
- Click the name of your domain controller, click NTFRS Subscriptions, and then view the properties of the Domain System Volume share.
- Change the property view to Mandatory.
- Change the FRSRootPath value to indicate drive M.
- Change the FRSStagingPath value to indicate drive M.
- Stop and then restart the NTFRS service.
MORE INFORMATION
ADSIEdit is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in that acts as a low-level editor for Windows 2000 Active Directory. ADSIEdit uses Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) and provides a way to add, delete, and move objects within the directory services. You can view, change, or delete the attributes of each object.
