This article was previously published under Q307671 SYMPTOMS
The following symptom may occur when you use Plus! Voice Command for Windows Media Player to tell Microsoft Windows Media Player to play songs in a particular genre. When you give the command, "media player, play genre genre name", you may receive the following error message in the Language Bar:
Genre not recognized
This issue occurs even though the genre that you asked for is in your Media Library and contains audio content.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the genre name contains numbers or special characters. For example, Windows Media Player may not recognize commands similar to the following:
"media player, play genre Funk & Soul"
-or-
"media player, play genre 70s Rock"
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, edit the genre name to remove the numbers or special characters for each track that you want to play, and then give the appropriate voice command. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Media Library, and then under Genre in the left pane, click the genre that contains the songs that you want to play.
- In the Genre column in the right pane, right-click the track that you want to edit, and then click Edit.
- Remove the numbers or special characters from the genre name, and then press ENTER.
