WMI Inadvertently Cancels Intrinsic Event Queries (306274)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation 1.5, when used with:
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000
This article was previously published under Q306274 SYMPTOMS
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) may inadvertently cancel intrinsic event query registrations. This problem typically occurs with event queries made against classes that take a relatively long time to complete an enumeration. This problem only affects Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
CAUSE
A problem with the WMI event-polling mechanism in Windows 2000 SP2 causes intrinsic event registrations to be canceled if the associated class takes longer than one second to enumerate. If multiple intrinsic event registrations are being handled by a single STA based provider, two possible problems may occur. First, if one or more of the event queries are made against a class that takes longer than one second to enumerate, WMI may fail to report data from the first event-polling cycle. Second, WMI may cancel some of the event registrations.
