SYMPTOMS

A chart on a report displays incorrect values for some records.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP-1). For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To workaround this problem without installing Office XP Service Pack 1, use a PivotChart view instead of Microsoft Graph to create a chart.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Office XP Service Pack 1.

This behavior is most likely to occur on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  2. Open the Sales By Category report in Design view.
  3. Double-click the chart to start the chart OLE Server.
  4. On the Chart menu, click Chart Options. Click the Data Table tab, click to select the Show Data Table check box, and then click OK.
  5. Change the data source of the chart to include the CategoryID field. To do so, right-click the RowSource property of the chart, and then click Build on the shortcut menu that appears. In the Query Builder, drag the CategoryID field to the query design grid. Close the Query Builder window and then save the changes. Save the Sales By Category report, and then close it.
  6. Preview the Sales By Category report. Note that the CategoryID randomly changes if you close and then reopen the report.

    NOTE: Sometimes you must quit and then start Access again to reproduce the behavior.
