MORE INFORMATION

CD-ROM: Evaluation CD May Not Be Bootable

Some of the Windows 2000 Server Evaluation Edition CDs included with this book may not be bootable. In order to install Windows 2000 Server using the non-bootable Evaluation CD, you must create Windows 2000 Server Setup Boot Disks.

For instructions on how to create the Windows 2000 Server Setup Boot Disks, please refer to the ADVSRV3.TXTfile located on the Evaluation CD:

"To start Setup for a new installation by starting the computer from floppy disks
1. Locate both the Windows 2000 Setup floppy disks and the Windows 2000 CD-ROM.
2. With your computer turned off, insert the first Setup disk into drive A of your computer.
3. Turn on your computer.
4. Follow the Setup instructions.

You can create a set of floppy disks by using the Makeboot utility in the Bootdisk folder of the Windows 2000 Setup CD-ROM. You can create the Setup disks from a computer running any version of Windows or MS-DOS.

You will need four blank, formatted, 3.5-inch, 1.44-MB floppy disks. Label them Setup Disk One, Setup Disk Two, Setup Disk Three, and Setup Disk Four. To create Setup disks
1. Insert a blank, formatted, 3.5-inch, 1.44-MB disk into the floppy disk drive.
2. Insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
3. Click Start, and then click Run.
4. In the Open box, type d:\bootdisk\makeboot a: (where d: is the drive letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive), and then click OK.
5. Follow the screen prompts."

Page 26: Change ISO to OSI

Change the first sentence on page 26 from:
"Your TCP/IP network protocol design focuses on the transport and network layers of the International Standards Organization (ISO) model."

To:
"Your TCP/IP network protocol design focuses on the transport and network layers of the Open-systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model."

Page 30: Change "Internet Domain" to "Interdomain"

On page 30, in the 5th bulleted item, change the text from:
"Determine the influence of Classless Internet Domain Routing (CIDR) on networking services designs"

To:
"Determine the influence of Classless Interdomain Routing (CIDR) on networking services designs"

Page 40: Incorrect Subnet ID In Figure 2.11

On page40, in Figure 2.11, in "Subnet Mask", change the third octet from "255" to "240".

Page 46: Bits Should Be Bytes

On page 46, in the first bulleted item,

Change:
"... rather than the first three bits of the IP address..."

To:
"... rather than the first three bytes of the IP address..."

Page 46: 25-bit Should Be 24-bit

On page 370, in the third paragraph,

Change:
"DHCP Relay Agent"

To:

Page 376: Correction To Screened Subnet Segments

On page 376, in the last bulleted paragraph, replace the paragraph with:

Screened subnet segments (otherwise known as DMZs) exist between an organization's private network and the Internet. The resources in these screened subnets are accessed by unauthorized users. For security reasons, don't place DHCP servers in these screened subnets or respond to DHCP requests from Internet users."

Page 415: Second Router 1 Should Be Router 2

On page 415, in the worksheet, change the second "router 1" to "router 2".

Page 441: Incorrect Text in Diagram 9.6

The right side of figure 9.6 on page 440 has the incorrect namespace in the domain parent's box. The box currently reads "contoso.msft."

This should be changed to read "contoso-i.msft." to reflect the text and caption comments for this diagram.

Page 572: Incorrect heading

On page 572, change the 2nd heading on the page from:
"Determining the Placement of Remote Access Servers"

To:
"Determining the Number of Remote Access Servers"

Page 573: Incorrect Number Of Simultaneous Remote Users

On page 573, in the second bulleted item, change:

To:
"the remote access clients can receive all IP configuration information provided by DHCP."

Page 709: Segment B Should Be Segment A

On page 709, in the fourth bullet,

Change:
"RADIUS Server A be placed on Segment B"
