SYMPTOMS

When you copy and paste a Microsoft Visio drawing or shape (or shapes) into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, the fill color of the shape (or shapes) may not always be preserved. The fill color may be changed or disappear completely.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you use the Copy command on the Edit menu to copy the shape (or shapes) or drawing in Visio.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Use the Copy Drawing command to copy your Visio drawing to your PowerPoint presentation. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Visio, and then open the drawing that you want to copy.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy Drawing.
  3. Start PowerPoint, and then open your presentation.
  4. Display the slide that you want to copy the Visio drawing into.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

Method 2

Save the Visio shape (or shapes) or drawing in a graphics file format (for example, .gif, .jpg, .bmp), and then insert the file into your PowerPoint presentation. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Visio, and then open the drawing that contains the shape (or shapes) that you want to copy.
  2. On the drawing page, select the shape that you want to copy.

To select multiple shapes, click a shape, press and hold down the SHIFT key, and then click the other shapes one at a time. Or, press CTRL+A to select all of the shapes.

Square selection handles that appear around the shapes indicate selection.
  3. On the File menu, click Save As.
  4. In the Save As dialog box, specify a location at which to save the file, and then type a name for the file in the File name box.
  5. In the Save as type box, click the graphic file format that you want, and then click Save. For example, if you want to save the shape (or shapes) as a Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) picture, click Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif).
  6. Start PowerPoint, and then open your presentation.
  7. Display the slide that you want to copy the Visio shapes into.
  8. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
  9. In the Insert Picture dialog box, locate the file that you created in step 5, and then click Insert.
