WD: Equations in a Word Document Take a Long Time to Appear (305322)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to view equations in a Word document, the equations may appear very slowly: 20 to 30 seconds or more may be required for each equation to appear as you scroll to it.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if there are too many files in the C:\Windows\Temp folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, clean out your Windows Temp folder. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Windows Explorer.
  2. Browse to drive:\Windows\Temp (where drive is the letter of the drive on which Windows is installed).
  3. On the Edit menu, click Select All, and then press DELETE.
  4. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
  5. Close Windows Explorer.
