SUMMARY

This article explains support boundaries and recommendations for Windows XP Home Edition with Remote Installation Services (RIS) and corporate deployments.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows XP Home Edition is not officially supported for deployment through an RIS server. When you use RIS, it is recommended that Windows XP Professional be used for corporate deployments of client workstations.

Although Windows XP Home Edition can technically be deployed through RIS, this is not recommended because of its limitations in network security, resulting from the fact that Home Edition was designed for the home environment and not the corporate domain environment.

NOTE: Under the current support model, only Windows XP Professional is covered under Professional Server Support as an RIS client for deployment.
