SYMPTOMS

When you run Notepad and the on-screen keyboard, some ALT+ functions do not work if you try to run them by using the on-screen keyboard. For example, you cannot use ALT+TAB to switch between active programs or ALT+F to gain access to the File menu. However, the ALT+ESC and ALT+F4 functions do work.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, either use the regular keyboard instead of the on-screen keyboard, or click the program or the menu item that you want to use.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
