Device Manager Reports WAN Miniport Error on Sony PCG-F370 Portable Computer After Upgrade (304782)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade a Sony VAIO PCG-F370 portable computer to Windows XP, a yellow icon may appear next to the WAN miniport in Device Manager. When you double-click this device in Device Manager, you receive the following error message about the device:
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for the device. (code 31)

CAUSE

This behavior can occur after the upgrade if the NetBEUI and Data Link Control (DLC) protocols are present in the computer before the upgrade. Windows XP does not support NetBEUI and DLC.

RESOLUTION

Remove the DLC and NetBEUI protocols before upgrading this device.
