DFS Mapped Drives Are Not Updated When a New Preferred Replica Is Available (303806)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q303806 SYMPTOMS
If you have a mapped drive that is connected to a DFS share, the DFS replica that is used may not be updated after you re-logon, even though there is now a closer replica available. Instead, the drive remains connected to the original replica when the drive was originally mapped.
This problem may occur when you create a new replica for a site that had to previously go to another site for its referrals. The computers that have current drive connections may not be re-mapped until the computer is rebooted or you follow the instructions in the "Resolution" section of this article.
RESOLUTION
You can work around this problem by using the Dsfutil.exe utility to run the dfsutil /pktflush command before you log off. The Dsfutil.exe utility is located in the Support Tools folder on the Windows 2000 CD-ROM.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
