Pocket PC Cannot Establish an IR Connection to Your Computer (303752)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC 2000

This article was previously published under Q303752

SYMPTOMS

When you try to establish an infrared (IR) file-transfer connection to a computer with a Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC 2000 device, you may not be able to establish the connection. After you choose IR Receive on the Pocket PC and place the device into IR range of the target computer, the Pocket PC displays an "Establishing connection with computer name" message. However, when you attempt to send data to the Pocket PC from your computer, you may receive the following error message:
The transfer failed. An error occured while Wireless Link was connecting to the other device. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because Pocket PC 2000 devices do not provide OBject EXchange (OBEX) support. OBEX support is required to communicate with a different device that only supports OBEX, for example a Windows Millennium Edition-based computer. Pocket PC 2002 supports OBEX.
