This article was previously published under Q303531 SYMPTOMS When you use a wizard to link to a database in any of the
programs that are listed in the "Applies to" section, the Next button may be unavailable (dimmed).CAUSE This behavior may occur if the Jet Database components are
corrupted or are not the correct version. RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, update to the latest Jet Database
components. These components are included in the latest Microsoft Data Access
Components (MDAC) service pack (SP). To do this, follow the steps that are appropriate
to your operating system. Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Download and install the latest MDAC service pack. To do this, follow these steps:
- Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- Click the appropriate link to download the latest version
of MDAC for your operating system. Select the language version of your
operating system, such as English, and then click
Download.
- In the File Download dialog box, click
Save this program to disk, and then click
OK.
- In the Save As dialog box, click
Desktop in the Save in box, and then click
Save.
Note The file name that is listed should be Mdac_typ.exe. - When the download process is completed, click
Close, and then disconnect from the Internet.
- Quit all the programs that are running in the background.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Press CTRL+ALT+DEL.
- Select each program that you want to quit.
- Click the End Task button to quit
every program and task except Explorer and Systray (these are components of
Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Millennium Edition (Me)).
- Repeat steps b and c until you have quit all
unnecessary tasks.
- On the desktop, double-click Mdac_typ.exe,
and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
- If you are prompted to restart the computer, click
Yes.
Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XPWindows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later and Windows XP should
have MDAC files that are later than those that are required by the programs listed in the "Applies to" section. New MDAC updates are frequently released and may be
updated from the Microsoft Web site that is mentioned in step 1 of this
section.
