This article was previously published under Q303508 SYMPTOMS When you attempt to start any of the listed programs, you
may receive an error message similar to the following:
Illegal operation: Exception in MHPUTIL5.dll. A required .dll file missing,
CPITOOL5.dll not found. CAUSE This behavior occurs when a necessary system file,
Cpitool5.dll, is missing or corrupted. RESOLUTION To replace the Cpitool5.dll with one from the installation
CD, follow these steps:
- Insert Disc 1 into the CD-ROM drive, and then click No when prompted to start the program.NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the
following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your
product documentation to complete these
steps.
- Click Start, point to Find or Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type cpitool5.dll.
- In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM
drive.
- Click Search Now or Find.
The file should appear in the following location drive:\PIP\COMMON\MSSHARED\WKSHARED\CPITOOL5.DLL where drive is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. - In the Search Results pane, right-click CPITOOL5.DLL, and then click Copy on the File menu.
- Click Start, click Run, and then type the following:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared - Click OK.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- If receive the following message
This folder already contains a file named 'CPITOOL5.DLL'.
Would you like to replace the existing file...
click Yes to replace the file.
