Spelling and Grammar Checker ignores misspelled words and grammatical errors in Office 2004 for Mac (303267)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the spelling and grammar checker, misspelled words and grammatical errors may be ignored. A dialog box may display the following information:
Microsoft Word The spelling and grammar check is complete. Text set to (no proofing) was skipped. To find (no proofing) text, click Edit/Replace, click More, click Format, click Language and choose (no proofing). OK

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Language option on the Tools menu is set to (no proofing). Applying a style to text also can enable the (no proofing) setting.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, set a proofing language other than (no proofing):
  1. Select the affected text, including paragraph marks.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Language.
  3. In the Language dialog box, click the appropriate language, and click OK.
  4. On the Tools menu, click Spelling and Grammar to run the spelling and grammar checker again.

MORE INFORMATION

If the selected dictionary files are not currently installed for the proofing language that you specify, the following error message may appear:
Word cannot find the grammar file for language.
