SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Office 2001 from the CD-ROM, the following error message may appear:
A disk error occurred while reading from the disk. Please contact technical support for help. 1008:22,-36 IO Error (Bad Disk)
Clicking OK ends the installation process.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using a Macintosh clone that runs FWB CD-ROM Toolkit or that has a third-party driver installed.

The last supported operating system for clones is Mac OS 8.1.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, download the latest available drivers from the FWB Web site:

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Start the computer with Extensions turned off by holding down the SHIFT key while the computer starts, until the following message appears:
       Welcome to Mac OS
       Extensions Off
    					
  2. Locate and start the FWB tool CDT from the hard disk.
  3. On the Toolkit menu, click Load CD-ROM drivers.
  4. Insert the Microsoft Office 2001 CD-ROM, and then install Microsoft Office 2001 either by dragging the Microsoft Office 2001 folder from the CD-ROM onto the hard disk, or by performing a custom installation.
