FIX: Crash occurs when opening a new project in Visual Studio .NET Beta 2 (303009)

SYMPTOMS

When you loading a new or existing project, Visual Studio .NET Beta 2 may crash.

CAUSE

The failure is due to registry key data that was installed by Visual Studio .NET Beta 1.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

  1. Open Regedit.exe and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.0\Object_Browser.
  2. To be safe, back up this registry key: From the File menu, click Export and save the key to an .reg file.
  3. Delete the Object Browser key.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This bug was corrected in Visual Studio .NET (2003).
