This article explains how to create a Web publication in Microsoft Publisher.

Use either of the following methods to create a Web publication in Publisher:
- Create a new Web publication by using the Web Sites Wizard.

- Convert an existing print publication to a Web publication.
After you have created your Web publication, you must publish your Web site to make it available on the Internet or an intranet.
Note that you can use Publisher to create Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) pages, but you cannot use Publisher to open the HTML pages. Publisher can export publications as HTML. However, after an HTML file has been created, Publisher cannot edit the finished HTML page. When you use Publisher to create a Web site, it is recommended that you save a copy of your document as a publication file (.pub). In this way, if you want to make any changes to your Web site, you can edit the .pub file, save it as a new HTML document, and then republish it.

Create a Web Publication by Using the Web Sites Wizard
To create a new Web publication by using the Web Sites Wizard, follow these steps:
- Start Publisher. If Publisher is already open, click New on the File menu.
- Click Web Sites in the Wizards pane on the Publications by Wizard tab of the Microsoft Publisher Catalog dialog box.
- In the right pane, click the design that you want, and then click Start Wizard.
- In the Web Site Wizard pane, click each of the options in the list to edit your publication by setting the formatting options that you want.
- When you finish making your changes, click Finish.
- On the File menu, click Save.
- In the Save As dialog box, specify a file name and location in which to save your publication, and then click Save.
Create a Web Publication Based on an Existing Print Publication
To create a Web site based on an existing print publication, follow these steps:
- Start Publisher, and then open the publication out of which you want to create a Web publication.
- On the File menu, click Create Web Site from Current Publication.
- Click Yes in response to the Would you like to run the Design Checker now? message.
- In the Design Checker dialog box, click All to check all the pages in your publication, and then click OK.
Design Checker scans your publication for any potential design and performance issues during the conversion process. If a problem is found with the design or layout of your Web page or pages, a dialog box is displayed.
- If you want to fix the problem, go directly to your pages and make your changes (you don't have to close the Design Checker dialog box). When you finish making your changes, click Continue.

If you do not want to fix the problem, click Ignore, and then click
Continue. - When Publisher finishes checking the design, it asks if you want to check your pages again to make sure that all problems have been corrected. Click the option that you want.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- In the Save As dialog box, specify a file name and location in which to save your publication, and then click Save.
Note that when you export your publication to HTML, some Publisher features may not be supported in HTML. Additionally, Publisher may not support all HTML features. Publish Your Web Site
To publish your Web site to the Internet, you must have an Internet service provider (ISP). Before you publish your Web site, contact your ISP to obtain all the information that you need to publish to your ISP Web server (for example, your user name, password, and your ISP's preferred method of file transfer).
To publish your Web site on the Internet, use any of the following methods:
- Publish it to a specified Web folder (or folders).
- Publish it to a specified FTP location.
- Publish it by using the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard.
If you want to display your Web site on your company's intranet, you can publish your Web site to a local network drive. You can also publish your Web site to a folder on your local hard disk and then transfer it to your ISP or a network drive at a later time.
To publish your Web site, follow these steps:
- On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
- In the Save as Web Page dialog box, accept the default Publish folder that Publisher creates when you publish (save) your publication as a grouping of HTML files, or specify another folder in which to publish the HTML files.
- In the Look in box, specify the location in which to publish your Web site (for example, your ISP's Web server, a network location, or a folder on your local hard disk).
- Click OK.
The Web site created from your publication is now published to the location that you specified. The home page file name and extension of the first page is Index.html.
