WD2001: Graphics and Objects Are Not Printed and Do Not Appear in Print Preview (302736)

SYMPTOMS

When you print a document that contains graphics or drawing objects, including WordArt, the graphics or drawing objects are not printed and do not appear in print preview, even though the objects may appear correctly in page layout view.

NOTE: Drawing objects that have text wrapping applied do not appear in normal view.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Drawing objects check box (in the Include with document section) is not selected.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, select the Drawing objects check box. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Word, select Preferences on the Edit menu.
  2. In the Preferences dialog box, select the Print tab.
  3. In the Include with document section, select the Drawing objects check box.
NOTE: This check box is selected by default. If the check box was cleared (disabled), you may want to review the other options in the Preferences dialog box to verify that your settings are correct.

The Drawing Objects Setting

Use this setting to control how quickly documents that contain drawing objects are printed, or whether drawing objects are printed at all.

NOTE: This setting affects objects in the drawing layer only; it does not affect any objects in the text layer of your document. If this setting is turned on (selected), any objects that you insert into your document from the Drawing toolbar will be visible in page layout view and print preview. The objects will not be visible in normal, outline, or master document view. All objects will be printed.

If this setting is turned off (the check box is cleared), drawing objects will not be printed; therefore, the document should be printed faster and should require less ink.

NOTE: The drawing objects will be visible in page layout view, but they will not be visible in print preview and they will not be printed.
