"404 File Does Not Exist" Error When You Click a Hyperlink (302164)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2001
- NCompass Resolution 4.0
This article was previously published under Q302164 SYMPTOMS
When you click a hyperlink on a published page in Microsoft Content Management Server, you receive the following error message:
404 Error - File or Page does not exist
If you go to the source where the files are saved, they are gone.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if the hyperlink was created with a path to /Program Files/Microsoft Content Management Server/Server/IIS_NR/Rdonlyres/<filename>. The MSCMS 2001 server uses this read-only folder for internal purposes and cleans out this folder every night; therefore, any files will be purged.
RESOLUTION
Do not create a hyperlink with a path to /Program Files/Microsoft Content Management Server/Server/IIS_NR/Rdonlyres/<filename>.
