The Menu Option to Format Media on the LS240 Drive Does Not Exist (301488)

The Windows Explorer menu option for formatting the LS240 media does not exist; however, you can format it from a command line.
For example, if you open Windows Explorer, and then right-click the LS240 drive in the My Computer folder, there is no option to format the drive.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because LS240 is a new media and drive type that was released during the development of Windows XP. The format functionality exists for the newer Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics 240 megabyte (MB) drives but no menu option exists in Windows XP.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, from a command prompt, type the following command line, and then press ENTER:
The LS drive will format the media to 240 MB if the media is supported.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
