WD2000: Word Quits Unexpectedly If You Save Digitally Signed Document After You Modify Document Variables (300870)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save a document that is based on a template that contains document variables, Microsoft Word quits unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • The document is based on a template that is digitally signed, but the digital signature does not exist on your computer.

    -and-
  • Macro code that modifies existing document variables has run.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
