Contact Work Address Values Are Misplaced in Custom List View (300521)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 Professional Edition for the Handheld PC
- Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 for the Handheld PC 2000
This article was previously published under Q300521 SYMPTOMS
If you add the Work Address fields to the Contacts tool (by using the Customize Columns command on the Tools menu) and you then create and open a new contact in List view, some Work Address values may be moved to other fields, or may be concatenated to each other. Note that just viewing a contact with Work Address values does not change the field contents. The problem occurs only after you open the Address Detail dialog box for a particular contact.
In the World Wide English (WWE) localization of the product, the value that you enter in the ZIP/Postal box may be shown in the State box.
In the Japanese, Chinese (Traditional), Chinese (Simplified), and Korean localizations of the product, if you enter double-byte character set (DBCS) values in the State box, values in the State and Street Address boxes are concatenated to the City value. Additionally, the Zip/Postal value is also concatenated to the Street Address value.
This problem does not cause a loss of data, and does not cause the device to stop responding (hang).
WORKAROUND
You can make the data usable by removing the Work Address column, and then moving the data back to the appropriate Address Detail fields. To remove the Work Address column from the list of customized columns:
- Start the Contacts tool.
- On the Tools menu, tap Customize Columns.
- In the Show these fields list, tap Work Address.
- Tap Remove.
Or, you can display one or more specific Work Address fields (such as Work Address City or Work Address Country) instead of a list view.
If you are using the Contacts tool as a mailing or driving destination list, you may want to view the whole work address in List view. You can do this if you do not edit any contact information while the Work Address field is present.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
