Installing MOM on a Computer That Has Both SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 7.0 Generates Error Message (300341)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Operations Manager 2000
This article was previously published under Q300341 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to install Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) on a system where both Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server version 7.0 are present, the MOM installation may not succeed and the following error message appears:
Setup cannot find SQL Server 2000 on this computer.
The Microsoft Operations Manager database component requires SQL Server 2000.
Click Cancel to exit Setup and install SQL Server 2000.
CAUSE
This issue can occur because MOM recognizes only the first instance of SQL Server, which is version 7.0. MOM installation requires SQL Server 2000, and therefore the error message appears.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, you must completely remove both SQL Server version 7.0 and SQL Server 2000, restart the computer, and then reinstall only SQL Server 2000. Simply removing SQL Server 7.0 from the targeted computer does not resolve the issue.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
