Consolidator May Not Function Properly After DCAM Installation on an Existing Agent (300311)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q300311

SYMPTOMS

After you install a Database-Consolidator-Agent Manager (DCAM) on a computer where you previously installed only the agent, the Consolidator may not function properly.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, install DCAMs only on computers where the agent is not already installed. If you must install the DCAM on a computer that has an existing agent, follow these steps:
  1. Add the computer to the Excluded list.
  2. Manually remove the agent from the computer by using the procedure that is documented in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

298380 How to Manually Remove an Agent From an Agent Computer

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Installation of a DCAM on an existing agent may prevent the database from communicating with the Consolidator because the database recognizes only the agent.
