Performance Monitoring of Nonexistent Counters Generates Frequent Event Reports (300308)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Operations Manager 2000
This article was previously published under Q300308 SYMPTOMS
The Event Log on a Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) agent computer may display event reports about nonexistent performance counters that are being monitored. These event reports are then submitted to MOM for inclusion in its database.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur on a computer if services exist but the performance monitors for the services are damaged or are not installed.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, create a pre-filter or a consolidation rule so that the MOM database does not fill up with these spurious event reports.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
If the performance counters on a MOM agent are corrupted, or if a service exists but the performance counters for the service are not installed, the Event Log of the individual computer may show event reports as frequently as every 30 seconds.
