SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Internet Explorer, you may receive an error message similar to the following
IEXPLORE caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module MCSCAN32.DLL at: address
where address is a memory address.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you have McAfee VirusScan installed on your computer. McAfee VirusScan requires the Mcscan32.dll file for proper operation. You may receive the error message if the Mcscan32.dll file is damaged or if it is the incorrect version.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, uninstall and then reinstall McAfee VirusScan. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click McAfee VirusScan, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Follow the instructions to remove McAfee VirusScan from the computer, and then restart the computer.
  5. Reinstall McAfee VirusScan.
