You Are Unable to Encrypt the User Name and Password to Join a Domain When You Use an Unattend File (299969)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition
This article was previously published under Q299969 SYMPTOMS
When you create an Unattend.txt file to perform unattended installations of Windows XP, you do not have an option to encrypt the user name and user password to join a domain.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, create an account on the domain that has the sole ability to join computers to the domain. This account must be set up so that it can be deleted, updated, or disabled without impacting the deployment process. Also, the account must be set up so that if another user attempts to use that account, that user has very limited abilities on the domain.
STATUSThis behavior is by design.
