FIX: Full Population May Not Complete if Microsoft Search Service Is Stopped and Restarted (299889)

SYMPTOMS

If the Microsoft Search service is stopped and restarted while full population is in progress, the catalog may be partially populated, or may not be populated at all. In some situations, the first full-text operation after Microsoft Search is restarted may fail with the following error:
Server: Msg 7619, Level 16, State 1, Line 3
Execution of a full-text operation failed. 'The catalog does not exist or is currently unavailable. Please retry the action again later and if this symptom persists, contact the system administrator. '

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

IMPORTANT: The service pack must be applied to each instance of SQL Server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
