SUMMARY

This article describes error messages that you may receive when you run Update.exe to install Exchange 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

MORE INFORMATION

An Exchange Server computer Administrator may receive the following error message (or a similar error message):
Setup cannot overwrite the file "C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\Bin\Exosal.dll". This file is currently being used by another application. Please shut down your other application and try again. Choosing "Continue" will copy the file but require a restart at the end of setup to complete the installation.
You may receive three options:
  • Cancel
  • Try Again
  • Continue
Subsequent error messages may occur that reference Exchmem.dll, Mtaperf.dll, Mdbsz.dll, Mdbperf.dll, or other files. These error messages may occur if System Monitor remotely monitors the Exchange Server computer, or the Exchange System Manager snap-in is running on the server that is being updated with SP1. To prevent these error messages, on the Exchange 2000 computer quit the Remote Registry service, and close any applications and unnecessary services that currently run on the Exchange 2000 computer.
