To temporarily work around this issue, until you install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 update, change the initial file format from Microsoft Word 2001 document to the format that you want by using the Format pop-up menu in the Save As dialog box before you click Save. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- On the Format pop-up menu, select the format that you want, and then click Save.
NOTE: The file icon may not appear correctly, but the file will have the correct format.
