Users Are Repeatedly Prompted for Credentials When They Access Exchange Server 5.5 in a Windows NT 4-Based Domain (299708)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server
  • Microsoft Mobile Information Server 2002

This article was previously published under Q299708

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Mobile Information Server to access a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 that resides in a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based domain, the Active Directory Connector (ADC) replicates Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 accounts to the Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory domain where Microsoft Mobile Information Server is running. If you use this topology, users may be repeatedly prompted for credentials when they access Microsoft Outlook Mobile Access 5.5.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because you enabled the Create a disabled Windows user account option in ADC instead of the Create a new Windows user account option.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior:
  1. Open the properties of the ADC Connection Agreement that is replicating the users from the Exchange server to Active Directory.
  2. In the properties of the ADC Connection Agreement, on the Advanced tab, click Create a new Windows user account.
For users that have replicated before you enable the Create a new Windows user account option:
  1. In Active Directory Users and Computers, locate the appropriate user account.
  2. Right-click this user account, and then click Enable Account.
