FP2002: Error Message: Name Is Not Valid Error Message Appears When Naming a Form Field (299707)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2002

This article was previously published under Q299707

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft FrontPage 2002, if you name a form field, the following error message may appear:
Name is not valid.

To allow the name to be used in a scripting language, it must start with a letter or underscore, and subsequent characters must be letters, digits, or underscores.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you are using a non-English keyboard layout. Scripting features, such as the Form Field Validation feature in FrontPage, require ASCII characters for form field names. Therefore, the Form Page Wizard restricts the characters that you can use.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, select an English keyboard layout to name your form fields.
