When you synchronize an Outlook Express 6 Windows Address Book (WAB) from a Hotmail account, any illegal characters that appear in the contacts Nickname box are deleted and replaced by the "_" symbol. If the entire nickname in WAB is composed of illegal characters, synchronization does not run and the following error message may appear:
Some of your contacts were not synchronized because of errors communicating with the server. Try again to finish synchronizing your Address Book.
If the contact is already in the Online Address Book (OAB) and you modify the contact, the synchronization runs but nothing is synchronized.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, remove any illegal characters from the nickname in the WAB or OAB.
To edit the WAB:
- Click Start, click Run, and then type WAB.
- Click OK, and then in the Nickname box, double-click the contact name that contains illegal characters.
- Click the Name tab, edit the characters in the Nickname box, and then click OK.
To edit the OAB:
- Log on to your Hotmail account, and then click Address Book.
- Click to select the check box next to the contact name that contains illegal characters, and then click View/Edit.
- Edit the nickname in the Quickname box, and then click OK.
