All Day Events appear as two days in other time zones in Outlook 2002 and in Outlook 2003 (299600)

SYMPTOMS

If you set an appointment in Microsoft Outlook 2002 or in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 as an All Day Event, it appears as two days when you view the appointment from another time zone.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the appointment is scheduled from 12:00 A.M. to 12:00 A.M when you select the All Day Event option. When the calendar is viewed from another time zone, the time is adjusted for that time zone, and the appointment overlaps two days. This makes the appointment appear to cover two days.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

When you set an appointment as an All Day Event, its title appears in a heading bar at the top of the schedule window. The time from 12:00 A.M. to 12:00 A.M. is blocked out in the schedule with a colored bar down the left edge of the window. The color of this bar indicates whether the time is set as Free (white bar), Tentative (light blue bar), Busy (dark blue bar), or Out of Office (purple bar).

When the appointment is viewed from another time zone, the apppointment's title bar displays a small clock that indicates that the time of the appointment has been adjusted from the original time zone. If the appointment is viewed from a time zone that is three hours ahead of the original time zone (the Eastern Time Zone versus the Pacific Time Zone), the time is adjusted to 3:00 A.M. of one day till 3:00 A.M. of the next day. Both days display the appointment title bar.
