SUMMARY

This article explains the meaning of the default resolution states for alerts and the method of creating custom resolution states.

MORE INFORMATION

The resolution state indicates whether you have begun to resolve an alert. You can change the resolution state of an alert to track resolution progress.

By default, Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) offers the following resolution states:

NewIndicates this alert has not yet been addressed. Alerts are New by default.
AcknowledgedIndicates that this alert has been read and acknowledged but not assigned.
Level 1: Assigned to help desk or local supportIndicates that the help desk or other local support is responsible for dealing with this alert.
Level 2: Assigned to subject matter expertIndicates that a subject matter expert is responsible for dealing with this alert.
Level 3: Requires scheduled maintenanceIndicates that the alert identifies a condition that requires maintenance that has been scheduled.
Level 4: Assigned to external group or vendorIndicates that an external group or a vendor is responsible for this alert.
ResolvedIndicates that the condition that generated this alert has been handled or solved.

With the exception of New and Resolved, you can modify or delete the default resolution states. You can also create custom resolution states. A custom resolution state might be, for example, In Progress or Deferred.

To create a custom resolution state:
  1. Start the MOM Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
  2. Expand Microsoft Operations Manager, expand Configuration, and then click Global Settings.
  3. In the right pane, click Alert Resolution States.
  4. Click Action on the menu bar, and then click Properties.
  5. On the Alert Resolution States tab, click Add.
  6. In the Resolution State Edit dialog box, specify the properties and conditions of the service level agreement for this resolution state.
  7. Click OK to close the Resolution State Edit dialog box.
  8. Click OK to close the Configuration Group Global Settings dialog box.
