SUMMARY

This article describes how to change the default resolution state of an alert in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM).

MORE INFORMATION

By default, all newly occurring alerts are assigned the resolution state of New. To assign a different default resolution state to an alert, you must modify the rule that generates the alert.

For example, if you want to change the default resolution state of an alert from New to Level 1: Assigned to Help Desk when a rule generates the alert, follow these steps:
  1. Start the MOM Microsoft Management Console (MMC), expand Rules, and then expand the Processing Rule Groups container.
  2. Browse to the appropriate Processing Rule Group (PRG), and then in the right pane, double-click the rule that you want to modify.
  3. On the Alert tab, in the Resolution State box, click Level 1: Assigned to Help Desk. New alerts now go by e-mail to the help desk, with a resolution state of Level 1: Assigned to Help Desk.

You can select any resolution state to be the default resolution state for alerts that the rule generates. You can also specify an owner.
Note that you still need to configure e-mail notification to send messages to the appropriate notification group.

You can also create custom resolution states. For more information, refer to the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
